Loaded up and hit the road leaving Savannah. Spied a big, beautiful oak tree dripping in Spanish Moss - these are everywhere.
Took the interstate for a short part of the trip then took smaller roads because we wanted to avoid going through Atlanta. Had a lovely drive through the country side and through the town of Dublin saw many stately homes - but nowhere to pull up and take a photo so became an expert at 'drive-by' photography in the hope that at least some turned out.
Had to laugh at the last sign - hope it is big enough for viewing - it's the name of a supermarket chain in Georgia, 'piggly wiggly' - it appealed to me!
Our drive took us north through Milledgeville, Tate, Fairmount and in to Calhoun. Every time we entered the name of one of these small towns in the (GPS) 'Millie'; she wanted to take us to the interstate and drive to the next town via Atlanta. It became the running joke - who was going to win the battle to avoid Atlanta???
