A picture of our new 'wheels'! It's a Dodge Grand Caravan - alias a replica of the previous VW -
Left Vegas early Monday morning - picked up by shuttle @ 5.30am! Note to self - never depart Las V on a Monday morning - traffic is a NIGHTMARE, shuttle drivers are STRESSED and the airport is FRANTIC. We made our 8.01am flight with 5 minutes to spare....
It was an interesting experience lined up at the United airlines counter - 3 people having an animated conversation in front of us in German; and the lady behind on her phone talking 15 to the dozen in Spanish - and Dave & I had no idea what any of them were saying.... except for when the Hispanic lady tapped me on the shoulder and asked if the 'dog' in my basket was 'real' - poor Toto! Then, we were going up the escalator when two fellas behind me said, 'Lady - for a minute we thought that dog was real!' Then, the serious Immigration officer watching me at the x-ray machine looked twice and said, 'Lady, what's that?' and then (yep, there's one more) - the flight attendant says to me, 'Oh, have you brought your own picnic basket? How sweet!' I replied, 'Lady, don't you recognise Toto? Aren't we going to Kansas City?' What a riot - good way to get noticed, I guess.
Flight to Orlando went via Denver. 90 minute stop over. Good, clear weather for flying. Movie was "Easy Virtue" which I enjoyed.
Found the Alamo car rental counter in Orlando and upgraded to the big blue bus! (Well I need something to fit all my shopping in!) Headed to Daytona Beach, 1.5hrs drive away. Got slightly lost as Dave had a fight with the GPS but Dave was right (I think)....
Spent Tuesday with Lesley and Jim - IHOP for brekky (choc-chip pancakes - the BEST!) Dave went with Jim to help him with the truck, unloading the motorbike and doing man 'stuff' - Lesley and I headed for the laundromat, liquor mart (of course - where else can I get cheap margaritas?), Dots, Dollar Tree and Bell's outlet. I feel right at home in Daytona Beach :-)!!!
Love the pseudo-toto story...at least you made it thru security !
ReplyDeleteHave never heard of choc-chip pancakes...hope you bring a recipe home.
At this rate I'll probably look like one!!!
ReplyDeleteIHOP (International House of Pancakes) chain has the BESt choc-chip - they use chocolate batter and put the choc chips in it. A regular serving is 4 pancakes for about $US6.99 - but I have to ask for a half serve because two is MORE than enough for me!
